15 students from Appalachian State University join the Alternative Break movement by supporting children's health in the developing world. Students are studying pre-med and will delve into topics related to challenges and the character of the Dominican health system with a focus on children while volunteering at the renowned Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital.
In addition to their service in the healthcare field, students will learn about the complex culture of the Dominican Republic and use the experience to explore social issues both throughout their program and back home.
Between serving, interacting, learning, and making friends from a new culture, this Alternative Breaks program promises transformation and long-term advocacy for social change.
