In this Global PeaceMakers program, volunteers from Xavier University will collaborate with local community members for the second year in a row to support a Model Classroom in our partner Community of Peace of El Quimal in San Martin. Service For Peace has been working in El Quimal, San Martin since 2008. The community has grown so much over the last few years that they are in desperate need of an improved schoolroom--and we will work with them to build it!
Global PeaceMakers projects bring together young adults from nations throughout the Americas and the world in an effort to offer models for intercultural cooperation through service.
The GPM is a service-learning project with a special focus on building personal leadership and peacemaking skills through service. Also woven into the schedule is time to see and experience the local culture and beautiful landscapes of Guatemala--a fascinating culture that is sure to leave a mark on your heart.
