Michael J. Lenaghan, our Chairperson, is the Anastasio and Maria Kyriakides Endowed Chair Professor in Education and Social Sciences 2002-2005.  Dr. Lenaghan holds a position as a Fulbright Senior Specialist Fellow – 2002-2007.  Dr. Lenaghan is a Full Professor, Political and Social Sciences, SUMMER 2001-present, Miami-Dade College. He has exhibited civic and community service and leadership in his association with the following organizations:

Rev. Mark J. R. Farr, our Vice Chair of the Board, is Senior Director for Outreach at the Points of Light Foundation, founded by former President Bush. The Foundation seeks to engage all Americans in better service, and has 350 Volunteer Centers around the country.  Rev. Farr has management of its Regional Meetings, for new Volunteer Center start-ups around the country, for Connect America, and for its faith efforts.


Rev. Farr is also Founder of the Institute for Progressive Christianity, a Washington- and Boston-based think tank.
Before serving at the Points of Light Foundation, Mark was National Faith Director at America’s Promise, General Colin L. Powell’s organization to serve young people.

Rev. Farr was educated at Oxford Brookes and Durham Universities in England with degrees in business and then theology, and then at Kensington Consultation Center in London where he trained and qualified as a psychotherapist. He had his own practice and also taught psychotherapy in London. Mark is an Episcopal priest.

Ken Bates, our Treasurer, is CEO of Eden Group, a Miami based international floral importer wholesale and provider and perishable service provider.  Mr. Bates worked for 3 years in NPO management after receiving a MBA from Columbia University in 2000.  Mr. Bates has served as Vice-President of the United Vision Foundation, a New York based charitable foundation.  Mr. Bates volunteers as a consultant for True North Adventures Outdoor Education, Montana based NPO providing character education through structured outdoor adventures.

Charles Phillips has served as CEO of Service For Peace since 2002.  Dr. Phillips has presented at numerous national level conferences on service learning including the National Conference on Volunteering and Service and the National Service Learning Conference.  He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Moscow State University and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Bridgeport.  Charles is a member of the American Association of Sociology and is President Elect 2006-2007 of the Bridgeport Rotary Sunrise Club.

Linda McGlathery is an internationalist who has lived in Guatemala, Thailand, and Italy. While she traveled through the world, she became interested in ordinary citizens: their housing, lifestyles, visions and issues. Her commitment is to make a difference that broadens our experience of each other and our potential in the communities where we live. She supports peace building by engaging in community building and education, opening up understanding among community cultures with active engagement at all levels through the arts, cultural exchanges, service and even gardening.

 THE GARDEN PROJECT, a project she conceived and presently runs, is a literal expression of how relationships can be transformed by bringing diverse people together around gardening, for example.

Linda has an MA in Psychology with a focus on culture, communications and community. She consults clients that range from the business sector to non-profits to governmental and intergovernmental organizations. These include Ralph Lauren's POLO, Thailand's Ministry of Industry and Small Business Development, the United Nations, UNDP, UNIDO, and a wide range of Latin American communities.

Richard Perea is the President of Eden Floral Farms, Inc. a Miami, FL based company.  Eden Floral Farms is a leading importer of fresh cut flowers from South America. Eden resells to wholesalers nationwide.  In 2004 Eden gave Service for Peace an in kind donation of office space as a base for their Miami activities. Richard’s daughters had participated in the Summer of Service and he was inspired by the project.


Mr. Perea has managed an array of companies which include a Spanish Language daily newspaper in New York City, a commercial newspaper printing company and a property management firm.

Richard was awarded a fellowship as a distinguished Hispanic leader from Association for Solidarity between US and Mexico in 1998.
He has been a dedicated volunteer with the National Association for Retarded Children, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Autism Center at Scottsdale - a section of the Fort Logan mental health center in Denver, Colorado.

Alan Inman served as National Director for the Institute for Responsible Fatherhood where he led the development of an additional eight locations throughout the country. Formerly, he served as Executive Director of Minority Alliance International, a New York based civil rights organization; as a consultant to the City of New York; and as chairman of a New York City Community Planning Board. He has been for the New York State Assembly, a presidential appointee to the White House Domestic Advisory Council, and as well, he is a radio personality that deals with the national issues of the day.
