The basics

At the core of our programs is service. We believe that through the shared experience of service, volunteers and community members become true global citizens. Over the course of our programs, participants experience a personal transformation incomparable to past experiences. By leaving your everyday life to serve and participate in a program, participants are moved by the service they complete, the community members that touch their hearts, and the lifelong bonds of friendship they form with one another. Participants can expect to work hard, play hard, and learn hard. Built into the program is service, cultural experiences, tourism and outings, interactive experiences with the host community, group learning activities, leadership development, cross-cultural education, and group reflection.

What makes Service For Peace programs unique?

Service For Peace is just one of thousands of organizations that coordinate international service programs. Why should you choose us? There are several things that make us unique—and what makes your experience on our programs incredible.

Sustainable community development. Many programs do development work within developing nations. What is unique about our programs is that all of our programs take place in partner communities of peace, These are communities that are established partners and have long been committed to development and service. Volunteers get to experience the rich culture and environment of their host communities, knowing they won't be the first nor the last volunteers to pass through.

We partner, not profit. Service For Peace is not in the business of coordinating trips that scratch the surface of cross-cultural experiences, or that provide a fake or sugar-coated perspective on serving abroad. We are an established international non-governmental organization that is in the business of sustainable community development. Our programs allow us to share this experience with people around the world.

Global citizenship education. Our programs make the best use of your time. If you are looking for a program that allows you to give a few hours of service daily and then explore the local bar scene, we are the not the program for you. During the evenings, our volunteers engage in relevant and interesting activities that facilitate personal growth and group learning that explore topics like international aid, cross-cultural communication, leadership development, civic responsibility, and more. These are interactive, fun, and valuable activities that not only encourage friendships among participants but also encourage volunteers to become better individuals and global citizens. We understand many of our private groups may have their own agendas for evening and other activities, and we are happy to work with that. But our team members are trained in educational facilitation, and we are here to help and provide whatever services are requested.
