SFP Opens up Opportunity for Request for Proposals for MLK Day 2012 Projects

September 16, 2011

We are pleased to offer a number of grants, ranging from $1,000 to $20,000, to our USA chapters and out-of-network partners. These grants are made possible by the generous support of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

Sub-grantees are called upon to create projects that are dynamic and relevant by combining meaningful service, thoughtful reflection, inclusion of a diverse cross section of the community as volunteers, education on the life and work of Dr. King, and providing volunteers with opportunities for sustained service and ongoing community involvement. This year we are adding a focus to involve veterans and military families. Specifically, we are asking applicants to show strong ability to meet the five program objectives for all projects:

1. Mobilize large numbers of diverse volunteers in meaningful service activities on the MLK Day weekend.
2. Grow the 40 Days of Peace to existing and new networks as a way of creating sustainable change one act at a time.
3. Engage veterans, military families, students and disadvantaged youth as participants and recipients of service.
4. Involve significant community partners for sustainability.
5. Provide evidence of personal transformation in the process of creating connected and peaceful communities.
