August 18, 2011Service For Peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo will lead the celebration of the International Day of Peace in the City of Matadi on September 20 and 21, 2011, through conflict resolution conferences and social service activities.
The international Day of Peace, declared by United Nations, has the objective to sensitize the youth people about the importance of the conflict negotiation through the understanding and tolerance of different ideologies, cultures and religions in order to solve ethnic, political and religious problems.

Service For Peace in DR Congo will lead four activities with youth to enhance the culture of tolerance and peace in the new Congolese generations:
- Youth Peace forum: Education and cultural conference for lasting peace, focused on interfaith dialog.
- Service project: Painting borders and cleaning gutters of the national stadium by volunteer youth.
- Soccer Youth Championship with youth 14-18 years of age (boys and girls) with the slogan “One Day One Goal”.
- Peace parade by the soccer players.
“The results of these activities of social service are to strengthen the consciousness of tolerance, respect and negotiation in the youth Congolese citizens in order to prevent violent actions during the general elections, especially among youth, whom are more vulnerable to engage in violent acts”, commented Alpha Kingo, SFP representative in DR Congo.
