SFP Elects New Chair of the Board and Welcomes New Board Members November 11, 2009
On November 8, 2009 SFP held its annual board meeting in Miami, Florida. Dr. Michael Lenaghan, Endowed Teaching Chair Professor of Social Sciences and The Honors College at Miami Dade College, is the new Chairman of the Board. Vice Chairman is Reverend Mark Farr, Program Officer at the Points of Light Foundation in Washington, DC. Mr. Ken Bates, CEO of Eden Floral Farms, was re-elected as Treasurer. Two new board members elected were Ms. Linda McGlathery, Organizational Development Consultant and former Guatemala Country Director for the Peace Corps and Hon. Maria Palacio, medical and educational services entrepreneur and former First Lady of Ecuador.
Outgoing Chairperson Heather Thalheimer of New Hampshire pledged continued support and cooperation as she welcomed her successor. Dr. Lenaghan reflected “Miami is now a principal hub of Service For Peace in the Western Hemisphere and the world, among hubs in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. I believe the two core concepts of Service For Peace globally “connecting people to peace through service” and “the facilitation and sustenance of communities of peace” can be informed and inspired by my commitment and competencies derived from multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual Miami, microcosm of the world and Democracy’s College, Miami Dade College - America’s largest, most diverse and most internationally representative higher education institution. I cherish the new role and responsibilities. And I relish the challenge that is an extension of what I believe a global educator, peace maker and environmental change maker should be.”
